CAN EDOMITES BE SAVED?
In this part 2, we look at the extreme opposite of that by looking at the question: can Edomites be saved? By the way, Edom refers to Esau, so Edomites are the descendants of Esau.
Now in the book of 2 Esdras, we are given a simple way to know who the children of Esau are today.
2Es 6:9 For Esau is the end of the world, and Jacob is the beginning of it that followeth.
So it is very simple. Esau (Edomites) are the people who are ruling the world at this time, before the end of this age. After this, Jacob (true children of Israel) will be ruling the world.
Anyway, in part 1, we looked at the question of whether it will be Israelites alone (the physical descendants of Jacob) who will be saved.
Ask this question among Hebrew Israelites, almost all will say no: Esau is doomed, and can find no forgiveness. Where did this come from? This conclusion came from of the prophecies of Ovadyahu, more specifically, this verse:
Obadiah 1:18
And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for YAHUAH hath spoken it.
MERCY AND FAVOUR FOR A CONDEMNED NATION
Can Edomites be saved? Unfortunately, we ignore other verses in the Bible that tell us even more than that verse in Ovadyahu.
They tell us of his mercy and favour, even to the nation that has been condemned.
Why do we never hear the Hebrew Israelites use these verses below?
Jer 18:7 — Jer 18:10 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
Those verses in Yirmeyahu 18 speak volumes.
CAN EDOMITES BE SAVED? PROVISION FOR STRANGERS TO JOIN THEMSELVES TO ISRAEL
Now in n part 1, we looked in detail at the provisions made for strangers to join themselves to Israel and even receive inheritance among the tribe in which they sojourn. This was necessary that we continue to do, as it is all over the Tanakh (Old Testament), but largely forgotten.
Isa 56:6 — Isa 56:8
Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to YAHUAH, to serve him, and to love the name of YAHUAH, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
YAHUAH ELOHIYM which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him.
PRACTICAL EXAMPLES OF MERCY TO THE CONDEMNED
Next, we go into practical examples found in the Bible. We looked at two of them: the people of Ninevah in the story of Jonah and Rahab the Harlot from Jericho.
